Prior to coming to UW-Madison, Funda Derin, worked as an adviser for Political Affairs and Media Relations to a Member of Parliament in the Turkish Grand National Assembly. She also worked as a specialist in the Central Directorate of the Commission on Curriculum Preparation, Ministry of Education in Ankara, Turkey. She has served as the director of the Turkish Language Program and a lecturer for second year Turkish at the Arabic, Persian and Turkish Language Immersion Institute (APTLII). In addition to research and writing, she gives lectures and conference presentations on identity issues among modern Muslim women, and energy and water issues in the Middle East. She is a member of MESA, AATT and CESS. She maintains a blog at:
