Summer Language Courses

| The Summer Arabic and Persian Immersion Program is an eight-week intensive language training program for undergraduate and graduate students and professionals. It is a joint project of the Department of African Languages and Literature and the Department of Languages and Cultures of Asia, coordinated by UW-Madison Global Studies. Each language course is equivalent to two semesters of study. Both beginning and intermediate levels are available. Students sign a contract that they will speak only their language of study throughout the program. |
The South Asia Summer Language Institute (SASLI) is an eight-week intensive language training program for undergraduate and graduate students and professionals. SASLI is held on the campus of UW-Madison until further notice. Instruction is offered in the following languages at the first and second year levels: Bengali, Gujarati, Hindi, Marathi, Nepali, Tamil, Telugu, Tibetan, and Urdu. Scheduling of classes is contingent on sufficient enrollment.Each language course is equivalent to two semesters of study, with full academic year credit. |
The Southeast Asian Studies Summer Institute (SEASSI) is an eight-week intensive language training program for undergraduate and graduate students and professionals. For the summers 2002 through 2009, SEASSI will be held on the campus of the University of Wisconsin-Madison. Instruction is offered in the following languages at the first, second and third year levels: Burmese, Hmong, Indonesian, Javanese, Khmer, Lao, Tagalog, Thai and Vietnamese. Scheduling of classes is contingent on sufficient enrollment, especially at the upper levels. Each language course is equivalent to two semesters of study, with full academic year credit. Instruction is given in small individualized groups taught by a team consisting of a coordinator (usually a linguist specializing in Southeast Asian language pedagogy) and teachers who are native speakers of that language. |
