Prospective Undergraduate Majors
The department offers a wide range of courses in literature, linguistics, religion, history, and cultures of Central, South, Southeast, and Southwest Asia. The languages currently offered during the academic year include: Hindi, Hmong, Urdu, Arabic, Pali, Persian, Sanskrit, Telugu, Tibetan, Indonesian, Tagalog/Filipino, Thai, Vietnamese, Turkish, and Uzbek. In addition, the languages currently offered during the summer session include: Hindi, Urdu, Gujarati, Marathi, Tamil, Telugu, Nepali, Tibetan, Burmese, Hmong, Javanese, Khmer, Lao, Indonesian, Tagalog/Filipino, Thai, and Vietnamese. Students interested in declaring this major are urged to make an appointment with the undergraduate adviser as soon as possible to prepare a coherent plan of study. To declare a major, you should follow L&S procedures for completing a Major Declaration/Cancellation form in consultation with your advisor. If you are declaring more than one major, you must complete a separate form at each department.
