The Department of Languages and Cultures of Asia (LCA) focuses on research and teaching in the Asian humanities, with particular emphasis on cultures, literatures, religions, and languages of Central Asia, South Asia, Southeast Asia, and Southwest Asia. The department engages in wide-ranging humanistic scholarship that transcends the boundaries of language, geographic region, nation, and religious identity to impart the significance of a humanistic study of Asia to students, as well as to other members of the university and beyond. The department promotes Asian humanities as something not merely to learn about but also, more importantly to learn from.

Due to departmental restructuring, admission to this major has been suspended as of Fall 2014. Students who were admitted prior to Fall 2014 and wish to declare a major in LCA should consult with the undergraduate adviser, Professor Schamiloglu.

Also, the Department of Languages and Cultures of Asia is not accepting graduate applications for admission at this time.
